In a display of grit and collective will, the Marcellus-Onondaga wrestling program etched its name into the history books this weekend, again capturing its second sectional title; the first was the Section 3 Division 2 Wrestling Dual Meet Title. For the first time in program history, the Mustangs-Tigers are the Section 3 Division 2 Team Champions, ascending to the top of one of the most competitive wrestling landscapes in the greater CNY area. OCS Art Students Build Global Connections Through The Memory Project:
In the fall, art students at Onondaga Central Schools created 14 portraits of Armenian children as part of The Memory Project. In January, they experienced firsthand the joy as the Armenian students received their gifts.
Now in their 14th year of participation, Mrs. Passetti’s Painting & Drawing I and Painting & Drawing II art students draw faces from a different part of the world, creating something meaningful and memorable for others. The portraits are sent off to the partner country (this year, Armenia). OCS has previously created portraits for children in Sierra Leone, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Ethiopia, Bolivia, Syrian refugee camps, the Philippines, Nigeria, and India.

Onondaga Senior Carolyn Andino Awarded 2025-2026 OCMEA Music Scholarship:
Onondaga Central Schools is pleased to announce that Onondaga Jr./Sr. High School senior Carolyn Andino was awarded the 2025-2026 Onondaga County Music Educators Association (OCMEA) Music Scholarship.
Andino was one of two vocalists selected, and five total scholarships were awarded to Onondaga County student musicians. Andino is an active member in the OCS community, most recently participating in the NYSSMA All-State Treble Chorus this December.

OCS Alumnae and siblings organize community day at OCC:
Students from Onondaga Central Schools visited Onondaga Community College for its first-ever Education Day, organized in part by sisters and OCC alumnae Katelyn Pulver and Jessica Matzke.
Pulver, a 2014 Onondaga Jr./Sr. High School graduate, works in OCC’s Financial Aid Center, and Matzke (2009 graduate) is a third-grade teacher at Wheeler Elementary. Pulver connected OCS with Women’s Basketball coach Kelly Seibt, who was looking for a school where her players could volunteer. It began with appearances at Wheeler’s Fist Bump Friday, where the athletes greeted Wheeler students as they entered school.

Wheeler Fifth Grader Named WonderKid in “Future Scientist” Category:
Fifth grader Corey Pickering has been nominated and selected as a WonderKid in the “Future Scientist” category through a contest sponsored by WonderWorks at Destiny USA.
This special recognition is awarded to students who “exhibit a passion for the sciences and live each day as innovators and discoverers, hoping to change the world through their love of science.” Those words perfectly describe Corey’s curiosity, enthusiasm, and dedication to learning.
As part of this honor, Corey earned the opportunity to participate in an exclusive webinar with Military Aviation Veteran Brian Moles, giving him a unique chance to learn from a professional in the field and explore real-world applications of science.

Marcellus/Onondaga Wrestling Captures First-Ever Section 3 Division 2 Dual Meet Championship:
Marcellus/Onondaga Wrestling made program history on Saturday at Indian River High School, capturing the 2026 Section 3 Division 2 Dual Meet Championship — the first sectional title of its kind for the program.
MOW opened the day in dominant fashion with a 71–6 victory over Adirondack in the quarterfinals, followed by a 56–17 win over South Jefferson in the semifinals, and ultimately dethroning Sherburne-Earlville with a 55–24 victory in the championship match.
In total, 17 wrestlers across 14 weight classes contributed to the championship effort, showcasing the depth, talent, and teamwork that defined the team’s title run. The victory marks a major milestone for the program and a memorable achievement for the student-athletes and coaches alike.

Celebrating OCS Alum Kaitlyn Guptill ('11):
Onondaga Central Schools proudly celebrates alumna Kaitlyn Guptill (Class of 2011) for being honored by the New York State Bar Association as part of a distinguished group of local women recognized for outstanding contributions to the legal profession.
Kaitlyn has built an impressive career in law, serving in roles that include litigation and community leadership. She has also held leadership positions with the Central New York Women’s Bar Association and earned accolades such as the 2024 Beacon Award for her contributions to the legal community and mentorship of new attorneys.

OCS Musicians Shine at OCMEA Senior High All-County Festival:
Several Onondaga Central School District students were selected to perform in the OCMEA Senior High All-County Festival last weekend, an honor that requires a successful audition and recognizes outstanding musical achievement.
Representing OCS were Ian Powell (Flute), Francesca Lasinski (Alto), and Carolyn Andino (Soprano). Andino also received special recognition as she was featured as part of a group of soloists during the festival.

The Marcellus and Onondaga Wrestling (MOW) team turned in an outstanding performance at the Dave Buck Memorial Tournament held at Elmira High School, capturing the Team Championship while producing four individual champions, four runners-up, and 11 total top-four finishers. The tournament featured two all-MOW finals, highlighting the depth and strength of the program.

OCS Students Inducted into Tri-M Music Honor Society:
Sixteen Onondaga Jr./Sr. High School students were inducted into the Tri-M Music Honor Society during the 2025 OCS Winter Concert on Dec. 10.
A program of the National Association for Music Education, the Tri-M Music Honor Society is the only music honor society for junior and senior high school students in the United States. It recognizes students who have gone above and beyond both academically and musically. Candidates must be involved in a school-sponsored music ensemble for at least one semester, maintain at least an A average in music and a B average in other academic subjects. Leadership, service, and character are also important factors in the selection process.

Wheeler Elementary and Jr./Sr. High School Students Impress at Annual Spelldown:
Wheeler Elementary and Onondaga Jr./Sr. High School held its annual Spelldown competition on Dec. 4. Fourth- through sixth-grade students from Wheeler competed against one another, and the top four will advance to the regional qualifier in February. Seventh- and eighth-grade OCS students vied for their own spot in the top four.
Sixth-grader Gabriella Abraham won Wheeler’s event, with Abel Connelly, Yurii Kyslyak, and Jayveon McBride taking the three other spots. Eighth-grader William Crysler won the junior high competition. Andrew Millet, Jannatul Meah, and Elias Chavarria will join Crysler at the Post-Standard regional qualifier in February.

Environmental Club Participates in Science on Seneca:
On October 20th, students from the Environmental Club, along with Mr. Mauro and Mrs. Tehan, participated in Science on Seneca, a field program sponsored by Hobart and William Smith Colleges. Aboard a research vessel, students tested water quality, examined dredge samples, and observed plankton under microscopes. Their collected data will support ongoing research in the college’s Geoscience Department. Despite the cold winds, students enjoyed an exciting day of authentic scientific investigation.

OCS Seniors Participate in Arcaro All-Star Classic:
OCS Seniors Maxwell Brown and David Pierce Jr. wrapped up their final football season with an appearance in the annual John Arcaro All-Star Classic. The yearly showcase invites exceptional seniors from Section III schools to play each other in a final showcase game. The blue team defeated the red team this year, 20-18.

Wheeler Elementary’s fifth-grade students showed off their state -of-the-art float presentations on November 7, 2025.
Every student created a float presenting their chosen state. Families and friends joined them in the small gym to admire their hard work and vote on their favorites. There were two primary awards:

Onondaga Students Inducted to National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society:
Sixteen Onondaga Jr./Sr. High School students were inducted into the National Honor Society during the chapter’s fall induction ceremony on November 10, 2025. Twenty-six students were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society.
The Onondaga Central School District Chapters of National Honor Society (NHS) and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) were established to recognize outstanding high school students. Student eligibility is based on her or his record of scholarship, leadership, character, and service at Onondaga Central School District and the communities served by the school district.
Students who demonstrate scholarship with an overall GPA of 92% or higher for 12 consecutive marking periods (2 years) are invited as candidates to join NHS and NJHS. Each member ...
