Marcellus/Onondaga Wrestling Dominates OHSL Championships Wrestlers Crowned Champions

The Marcellus/Onondaga wrestling team continued their dominance on the mat this weekend, capturing the OHSL Championships title. The Mustangs topped a field of nine teams from the OHSL Liberty American and OHSL Liberty National leagues to claim the top prize.

The team's success was fueled by individual performances like Colin Scherer, who was named the OSHL Liberty American Wrestler of the Year. Scherer, a four-time OHSL League Champion, put on an impressive display throughout the tournament.

Another standout performance came from Coach Todd Donovan, who was rightfully named OHSL Coach of the Year. Donovan's leadership and coaching were instrumental in the team's success.

Burton's Championship Run

While the team had several champions, Jack Burton's 124-pound title was one of the most thrilling storylines of the tournament. Burton had to win three close decisions to reach the finals, including an 8-3 quarterfinal win over Quentin Thomas (Phoenix) and a tense 4-3 semifinal victory over Ray Carr (Southern Hills).

In the championship bout, Burton faced top seed Connor Fraher of J-E. Fraher was favored to win after blanking Jackson Marks (Cortland) 13-0 in the semifinals, but Burton battled through six minutes and emerged victorious with a 4-3 decision.

Other Top Performers

In addition to Scherer and Burton's titles, the Marcellus/Onondaga wrestling team had several other wrestlers place in the top six. These included:

  • Blaine Haney (101 pounds) - 3rd place
  • Brayden Borst (101 pounds) - 6th place
  • Jake Burton (108 pounds) - 3rd place
  • Knoll McKoy (108 pounds) - 4th place
