A“moo”zing Readers

Wheeler School celebrated Read Across America Day on March 2nd in a most delightful way. Students and staff watched as Mr. Smith kissed two baby calves. In February, Mr. Smith challenged students to read 50,000 minutes and in exchange, he would kiss a farm animal! Students got to work and exceeded their goal, reading a grand total of 54,143 minutes in the month of February. Scholastic Books gift cards and medals were given to the three students who read the most minutes, courtesy of the Rockwell Wheeler PTO. Those students were Hunter Parker who read 931 minutes, Jannatul Meah who read 995 minutes and Liam Luchsinger who read 1,066 minutes! Mrs. Gasowski’s 5th grade class won a trophy, as well as a party, including pizza, as the class with the most number of minutes read by a class. Their total was a whopping 8,390 minutes!

True to his word, on March 2nd, we had an assembly where the wonderful people at Volles Farm brought two 3-day old calves to Wheeler so Mr. Smith could get those kisses! Wheeler students completed the challenge and can’t wait to see what next year’s challenge will be.
