Guidelines from The New York State Education Department regarding the required annual screenings for the grade levels at The Junior-Senior High School are as follows:

 

Vision

Screening and recording of the following:

*All new entrants to school, within six months of admission, will be administered vision screening for color perception, distance acuity, near vision.

*Screening and recording of distance acuity and near vision for seventh and eleventh grades.

*At any time deemed necessary by school authorities.

If this screening was performed by your child's health care provider at the time of their physical exam, we will not need to perform the screening at school.

 

Hearing

Screening and recording of the following:

Hearing screening will be administered to all new entrants within six months of admission to the school.

Hearing screening and recording of results for tseventh and eleventh grades

At any time deemed necessary by school authorities.

If this screening was performed by your child's health care provider at the time of their physical exam, we will not need to perform the screening at school.

 

Scoliosis

Screening and recording of the following:

Scoliosis screening will be administered once each school year for all female students in grade seven and all boys in grade nine. If this screening was performed by your child's health care provider at the time of their physical exam, we will not need to perform the screening at school.
The above screenings will be conducted by the school nurse. If you have any concerns regarding your child's vision, hearing or spinal alignment, please call me and I will be happy to screen them regardless of grade level.

Physical Education Excuses

If a student needs to be excused from physical education classes, parents are required to send a written excuse to the school nurse. If your child must be excused for more than one week, a note from the attending physician is required.
