Onondaga Central Schools Celebrates Night of the Arts
Onondaga Central Schools students showcased their artistic and musical talents during the district’s annual Night of the Arts on March 19.The event, established in 2014 by OCS art teacher Jackie Passetti, began with a display of student artwork created throughout the year. Wheeler Elementary sixth-grade students were also featured, with projects spanning a variety of mediums, including pottery, painting and drawing.
The evening concluded with a performance by the Jr./Sr. High School bands and chorus, featuring a collection of Disney-themed songs in celebration of their upcoming trip to Disney World in 2027.
“Our staff and community are always very impressed by all of the creativity on display,” Passetti said. “The community turnout has increased every year, and it’s a nice moment that brings everyone together to celebrate the fine arts and our students’ creativity.”
OCS Jr./Sr. High School Band Director Hal Meyer praised students’ growth and dedication.
“I’m proud of everything the students have accomplished and how much they have grown over the past couple of years,” Meyer said. “It’s a joy getting to share the magic of music with them and the community.”
Chorus teacher Laura Ramos noted the strong student voice in the performance.
“Nearly all of the music performed by OCS chorus students was selected by the students themselves,” Ramos said. “There is such clear dedication and growth in our singers as musicians and performers. I could not be more proud of how they are learning, growing and pushing themselves to be better musicians.”
