Food Distribution Info and Updates

UPDATE 9/6/20: USDA Free Meal Program

On August 31 the USDA announced that they would be extending the free meal program for all students through December 31 OR until funding runs out. Since we do not know when this funding will run out, we are recommending that for September you fund your Child's MYSchoolBucks account as you normally would. Please be assured that we will not charge your child's account for reimbursable meals that they purchase as long as the funding continues, hopefully through December 31. We will continue to keep you posted on this as things develop.

 

School Building Meal Program Information 8/28/2020

School Meals for ALL Learners

Your child(ren) has/have been identified as attending school in person either two (2) or five (5) days a week.  If you are attending school only two (2) days a week, or remotely, please read the “School Meals for Remote Learners” portion of this article. 

Your IN SCHOOL meal program will function very similar to previous years with one exception.  All school meals will need to be preordered, which will be discussed below. (Note:  All meal prices remain the same as last year: Breakfast K-12 is $1.75; Elementary Lunch is $2.70; Jr/Sr High School Lunch is $2.85)

As always, we are participating in the national free and reduced price meal program.  All application materials can be found here.

As indicated above, all meals this year are required to be preordered through our onondaga.nutrislice.com menu page or by downloading the Nutrislice App on your phone.  There will be instructional videos on our website to assist you in getting your account established.  Once your orders are placed, they will be billed to your child’s MySchoolBucks account once the day of service has passed.  This will allow us to process any cancellations properly.  If there is not sufficient funds available on the account at the time of the order, we will contact you by phone and automated messages to remind you to fund the account.

Pre-Order Timing Guidance

All Preorders must be completed twenty-four (24) hours in advance.

(i.e.: 7 a.m. Breakfast for 9/9 must be ordered by 7 a.m. on 9/8)

(i.e.: 11 a.m. lunch on 9/9 must be ordered by 11 a.m. on 9/8)

You can also order meals by the week or month. There is a cancellation feature by 6 a.m. on the day of service.

School Meals for Remote Learners

Your child(ren) has/have been identified as being remote learners either for partial or full weeks.  As you may be aware, your child(ren) is/are eligible to participate in the school meal programs while studying remotely at home.  The pricing of meals will mirror that of those sold in schools.  The one difference is that meals will be sold in bundles, versus daily purchases.  This is to accommodate the parent pick up, or in necessary cases, delivery of meals.  The bundles and associated costs are as follows:

Monday to Friday – 5 day Remote Learners

5 day Breakfast Bundle = $8.75 ($1.75 x 5 days)

5 day Elementary Lunch Bundle = $13.50 ($2.70 x 5)

5 day Jr/Sr High School Lunch Bundle = $14.25 ($2.85 x 5)

Monday and Tuesday /Wednesday or Thursday/ Friday – 3 day Remote Learners

3 day Breakfast Bundle = $5.25 ($1.75 x 3 days)

3 day Elementary Lunch Bundle = $8.10 ($2.70 x 3)

3 day Middle or High School Lunch Bundle = $8.55 ($2.85 x 3) *Amount is different than previously published; this is the correct amount

This preordering requirement is necessary to facilitate package preparation for parent pick up, or in necessary cases, delivery of meals.  These options will take place every Monday school is in session. We will establish parent pick up times and locations once the quantity of orders is determined.

2020-21 Free & Reduced Price Meal Application Available
I would like to take a moment to get you information regarding the National School Lunch Program.  As we are sure you can imagine, planning for the 2020-2021 school year is certainly a unique experience.  I would like to provide all of you with an early opportunity to review the National School Lunch Program information that can be found on our website (http://www.onondagacsd.org/districtpage.cfm?pageid=1977 ).  In an effort to minimize the surge of applications that we typically get in September, we are encouraging you to fill these out as soon as possible, if you believe that you qualify for free or reduced price meals.  Please be assured that if your situation changes between the time that you submit your application and school starts, or at any point during the school year, you can certainly fill out a new application for free or reduced price meals.
 
Spring Emergency Meal Provision Expiration
Last Spring, with the onset of the COVID19 shutdown, a provision was approved by the Department of Education to provide all students with a free meal program.  It is important to note that this free meal program has expired and your children will be charge the appropriate amount for their meals, based on eligibility status.  Should this provision be available again at any point, we will immediately notify you of the availability. 
 
Meal Programs and Costs
We will provide all students with access to breakfast and lunch options during the 2020-21 school year, regardless if you are in-person or doing remote instruction.  All students will be charged for their meals based on their eligibility status.  Our meal prices will remain the same for the 2020-21 school year as follows:
Breakfast - $1.75
Elementary Lunch - $2.70
Junior/ Senior High School Lunch - $2.85
 
If possible, please send your child with a lunch from home for the first few weeks to assist in the reopening.
 
Our tentative plan is to have meals picked-up, or delivered when necessary, to full-time remote learners and hybrid learners, each week.  If you require meals delivered to your home for your student, please fill out this form: Food Delivery Request
 
 
Remote Ordering Through Nutrislice
 
We are in the process of implementing a new remote ordering system that is tied into our online menu system through Nutrislice.  This system/App will allow parents to order meals for their children by a predetermined cut off time for the next day.  We will also have an option to order for the entire week if you so desire.  Please be assured that we will also have a cancellation feature, by a pre-determined deadline each morning, should your child be absent.  Please be on the lookout for more information and tutorials once we roll this program out.

The Mobile Food Pantry from the Food Bank of Central New York and at St. Andrew's Anglican Church partner together to serve Nedrow and the immediate vacinity. The boxes of food have produce, dairy products and other food items.

July 10th, July 24th, and July 31st at 2pm.
The food included in these mobile distributions is primarily highly desirable perishable goods like fresh fruits and vegetables, dairy, and bread items

With the announcement of schools not returning to regular schedules this year, we are putting in place the food distribution schedule for the remainder of May, 2020 through June, 2020.  Please see below for more detailed information.
  • May 11, 2020 – Five days of meals (covers 5/12, 5/13, 5/14, 5/15, 5/18)
  • May 18, 2020 – Six days of meals (covers 5/19, 5/20. 5/21, 5/22, 5/25, 5/26)
  • May 26, 2020 – Four days of meals (covers 5/27, 5/28, 5/29, 6/1)
  • June 1, 2020 –  Five days of meals (covers 6/2, 6/3, 6/4, 6/5, 6/8)
  • June 8, 2020 –  Five days of meals (covers 6/9, 6/10, 6/11, 6/12, 6/15)

- People must be signed up by Friday March 27th at noon to receive deliveries for Monday.
- If you have already received food, please have your box on your front porch for delivery.

Friday March 20th Rockwell Pick Up Time:  8:00 am to 1:00 pm
 
Upon Arrival:  
1.  Stay in your car
2.  Provide The last name of the GUARDIAN that was on registration form.  (If you are also picking up for another family, have accurate information)
3.  How many students you are picking up for, and if there are any peanut allergies.
 
You Will Receive:
3 breakfast meals for each student
3 lunch meals for each student
